Stafford Barzey Associate Head Volleyball Coach/Camp Coordinator Stafford.barzey@WESTPOINT.EDU 845-938-3294

In nine years as the head coach of one of the most successful Army West Point programs, Alma Kovaci Lee has proven to be one of the best young volleyball coaching minds in the country. During her tenure at West Point, Kovaci Lee has authored a 186-85 (.686) record and led the Black Knights to the 2009 Patriot League title. The 2009 team captured the program’s first championship since 1994 and fourth overall, and the Cadets punched their ticket to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in the program’s 35-year history.

Kovaci Lee reached the 75-win plateau faster than any other coach in Army volleyball history, accomplishing the feat in her third year at West Point. The Black Knights have averaged 21 wins per season and enjoyed six 20-plus-win campaigns during her impressive tenure. Kovaci Lee became the third coach in Army history to reach the century mark at West Point in 2011, joining legendary head coach Bob Gambardella (1983-1995) and her mentor, Glen Conley (1999-2006).

After serving as assistant volleyball coach at Army West Point for the last six seasons, Stafford Barzey has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, announced by head coach Alma Kovaci.

"Stafford is a true professional and an incredibly valuable part of our program," Kovaci said. "He is a tireless worker, honest and trustworthy. He is very knowledgeable and at the same time, a student of the game. He has built relationships with our cadet-athletes, West Point and the volleyball community that are based on trust and respect. I've appreciated his hard work and loyalty to our program for the last six years, and I look forward to working with him in the years to come."

Head coach Alma Kovaci Lee announced the addition of Ali Berens to the Army West Point volleyball staff in February of 2017. Berens joined the program as an assistant coach after serving in a similar role at Marist for three seasons.

“We are very excited to add Ali to our program,” said Kovaci Lee. “We have known Ali for a couple of years and have worked together on numerous occasions. I have always been impressed with her volleyball knowledge, her positive energy and the ability to connect with athletes across all ages. Ali will be a great addition to West Point and our volleyball program and we can't wait to start this journey with her!”
