Russell Payne completed his seventh season as the head men's soccer coach at Army in 2016. During his seven seasons as head coach, Payne has led the Black Knights to a 46-59-22 overall record.

Army finished 9-8-2 during the 2016 campaign and reached the Patriot League Tournament for the fourth year in a row. The Black Knights defeated Air Force and Navy to mark the first year they have topped both service academies in the same season since 2007.

Army West Point head men's soccer coach, Russell Payne, announced the addition of former University of Maryland goalkeeper Cody Niedermeier to the staff in March 2017.

Niedermeier will be assisting the Black Knights in all aspects of the men's soccer program, including goalkeeper training, opponent scouting, video editing, individual player development, and day-to-day operations.

Head men's soccer coach Russell Payne announced the hiring of Krystian Witkowski to his staff in April 2017.

"As a college and pro player Krystian was an extremely dynamic attacker and he has already demonstrated that same dynamic approach in his early coaching career," Payne said. "He has gained coaching experience at the college and professional level and he has a keen attack-minded foundation to his coaching style. He is a great addition to the Army West Point soccer program."

Army West Point head men's soccer coach Russell Payne announced the addition of Alex Shinsky to his staff as the Black Knights' volunteer assistant coach in July 2017.

"Alex is a high quality person with a fantastic soccer IQ," Payne said. "He has the necessary tools to become a first class coach and mentor. He is a great addition to our Army West Point soccer coaching staff."
