Men’s rugby head coach Matt Sherman formally announced the addition of Kyle Sumsion to the Black Knights coaching staff during the fall of 2018.
Sumsion brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to West Point. At BYU he was a four-time national champion and All-American while twice serving as team captain. He also appeared six times for the USA National Team and was captain of the Sacramento PRO team and then Major League Rugby's Houston Sabercats. Sumsion also recently signed on with professional rugby team, Rugby United New York.
While completing his MBA, he worked with D1AA team Lindenwood Bellville. Kyle, along with his wife Halle and their children Leo and Luna, reside in Newburgh, N.Y.

Coach Matt Sherman enters his third year at the helm of the Army West Point men's rugby program. In his two seasons with Army the team has continued the programs tradition as a national powerhouse. Sherman was a three time collegiate All-American, played in UK with Oxford University and Australia with Randwick, and is a two time Rugby World Cup veteran with the USA National Team, as a player in 2003 and a coach in 2011. His previous collegiate coaching experience includes Cal-Berkeley, San Diego State, and Stanford University where he coached numerous National Champion and Final-Four teams. Prior to coming to West Point, Sherman was co-founder of Nike Rugby Camps.
